If you still want SL or even earlier oils, motorcycle oils are often API SH or earlier. That in mind, there aren't many XXw30 motorcycle oils, and heavier grades don't need to meet phosphorous limits.
Some garden equipment oil is API SH or earlier, but I don't know if that is advantage.
Other oils get complaints, too. There are people who don't like API CJ-4 HDEO and would prefer CI4+. VW owners discuss 505, 505.01 and 507 diesel engine oils, and many fear that the 507 oils with extreme limits on phosphorous.
