LOL.....yeah, maybe I should have threw a little extra out there....the details:

2003 Cavalier sedan/ base model
195/70/14 tire size
Needed for all seasons/large potholes (Michigan ones!)
50/50 (city/hwy) driving
Looking for a little extra grip, but the bigger concern would be "cushion" both for the roads and her struts.

Can add more if needed..

my coppers cs4 did pretty good over the winter/spring pot-holes-wise. remember, this is Chicago so we had plenty.

Would you consider buying oil for a couple of Hyundai and Honda owners as well?
I'll chip in.
OTOH, careful selection is probably of more importance at the lower tiers of the tire market than it is at the higher ones.
You could buy pretty much any Michelin or higher tier Continental or Bridgestone that fits and expect good results over many miles.
This is not true at the low end of the market, where you really do find the good, the bad and the ugly.

Yeah, there tends to be some stinkers on this end too. Though I guess they figure when you have a car worth less than 3 grand, you are going to just put the cheapest of whatever there is to get by. Which is sadly not the case....

Still deciding myself whether I should order set, or hit my local indy/ DT, or maybe Belle Tire.....

Yeah, I'd order a name brand over the generic junk they carry.

Have you priced sears? $35 for my Saturn 14 inchers.

I've got Yoko Avid Touring S on my wife's Concorde and they are wearing well with 45K on them. They have 1/4" of tread still and a wearing evenly. They really handle well in the dry, mediocre in wet and snow.

I have these on my Escort and I love them. DTD also carries them. Made in USA too (VA to be specific).

I have the Goodyear integrity in 14", good tire for the price but not so good in snow / ice, and they won't last 60k miles. My vote is for the summitomo s

Call me old fashioned but I would weed out the foreign ones right off the bat. Tirerack usually has all those specs for each size.
