Here is 2 UOA's on the same oil for a total of 7500 miles in a GDI engine. Would the trend of the TBN indicate that 11k or so be the limit on this oil in this engine?

I posted this now a year later in reference to http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubb....i.#Post3415411

This vehicle was rear-ended and totaled in June 2013.

You'd probably want to know the TAN as well to help make that determination; however, with the amount of fuel that you had in there, I'd be extra careful about extending the OCI.

Agreed. However it seems that Amsoil SS will go the full OEM recommmended 7500 miles with no top off and have a reasonable cushion. But I don't think 15,000+ (as advertised) is even remotely possible in this engine. I guess this is why "UP TO" is in the Ad line.

The Sante Fe that I have now has the same engine. I'm sticking to 5000 miles or so on Mobil 1 or something. I don't think GDI engines are good candidates for extended drains. JMHO.

Well said!

FWIW, Canada has OCI requirements of 3,750 miles or 6 months.
I use PYB or QSGB 5W-30 in the summer, PP 5W-20 in the winter with OEM oil filter on my 2013 Sonata 2.4L.
Must be a reason for the short Canada OCI - could be the fuel dilution is worse in colder temps?

2+

Note how fuel dilution killed your TBN and how your wear per mile nearly doubled. What happened in this sample during winter, extra short trips? Not sure how your part of the world gets cold in the winter, my 2010 2.4l has 0 fuel dilution on 2 mile work trips, but I do not hesitate to open up the throttle on the weekends. My TBNs average around 7, TANs around 3, yearly 6k OCIs with mid spring oil changes, PP5w-30.

Only true way to know on the new car is to do a OCI if that makes you sleep well at night.
