There may be more to what Tire Rack and Discount Tire recommend that just rubbing. Sometimes, they don't like big offset changes. I don't know. I'm just forwarding the info.

Just in case you weren't prepared for the awesomeness.

Mustang parts houses commonly have wheel/tire packages with 275/40 17 tires on 9" wide wheels.

Do you who are alarmed about 255 and up tires not fitting on Mustangs have first hand experience with this, or are you going by fitment charts? All the research I've done is that 255 and 275 are commonly used on Mustangs. In fact this is the first I've seen that they don't fit 1995 up Mustangs.
