My mazdaspeed3 is due for a change, or at least I want to change it.

There are only 1000 miles on the car, which is stock, and I have both of these
oils in my stash. I have used widmans calculator but I am not sure what viscosity
target I need.

Factory recommends 5w30 and I have not installed an oil pressure gauge yet.
Mobil 1 recommends 0w30 in winter via phone call and their 5w30 otherwise.

My driving is 70% city and spirited but also some stop and go traffic.

Wondering if it is suggested to blend these two and at what ratio.

thanks

Wow, I thought I had a low mileage Speed3 with a 2013 at 8900 miles! Currently I am using PU 5w-30 but will probably change to Castrol Edge EP because it is holding up pretty well in my Ecoboost F150. Will use 5w-30 with 3k miles OCIs.

That's ridiculous I know but with all the soot in the oil contamination issues that plague turbo'd DI engines, spending $35-40 to service the engine is chicken feed.

I too have avoided the modding bug to prevent ZZB. Car is fast enough stock.

Given that "the blend" was only created as M1 0W-30 wasn't available in Canada, there's no reason to play scientist, when you can buy M1 0W-30 (or the AFE) off the bat in the first place...use one of those preferably.

You can stick to the M1 5W-30 if you want also...

Yeah, I'd use one oil.

Discussion in the past few got me thinking about the base oils used to make each grade, and how it may not be necessary at all for the "custom new" blend to include the 'really light' bases (~4cSt eg) included if one is trying to "beef up" an oil like TGMO to be more viscous.
