The Noack hypocrisy

"The main proponents for the 'meaninglesd specifucation' don't like it becayse thei pet oils aren' good at it"

I think you're on to something there......

"They don't worry about Noack down under because 20w-50 has the highest volatility of any oil on the market there."

And also since they are in the southern hemisphere, the oil pumps the opposite way in the engine causing significant volatility issues...I Heard/Feel/Believe.

Interesting point.
The 20w-50 I use has an appalling Noack of 5.4

If I'd known about that before I started using it, I would've found something else.

A VI of 10 and a Noack of 4%?

Lex94: They have to use 20w-50 and monogrades down there so the oil doesn't float into the valve covers during normal operation.

The new GTL PP has improved volatility versus the previous PP according to Shell PDS. It's the Ultra line that saw increased volatility.

New PP 5W-30 (10.3% NOACK): http://www.pennzoil.com/wp-content/uploa...GF-5-en-TDS.pdf
New PP 5W-20 (8.6% NOACK): http://www.pennzoil.com/wp-content/uploa...GF-5-en-TDS.pdf

Old PP PDS (5W-30 - 12.5%, 5W-20 - 13.2%): http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2018473

PUP is more volatile than PP now.

PUP 5W-30 (11.5%): http://www.pennzoil.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Pennzoil-Ultra-Platinum-5W-20-SN-GF-5-en-TDS.pdf
PUP 5W-20 (10.5%): http://www.pennzoil.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Pennzoil-Ultra-Platinum-5W-20-SN-GF-5-en-TDS.pdf

PU (5W-30 - 6.4%, 5W-20 - 5.0%): http://www.pennzoil.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/2012+Ultra+TDS.pdf

Those reverse direction oil pumps tend to increase the oil level.........You have to drain some out, from time to time.

To be fair for the new oils there hasn't been any outside lab verification that the Noack's are actually these values. Pennzoil has shown differences in the past from their TDS's. An example is that their 5w-30 tested better than their TDS:
http://www.pqiamerica.com/March2013PCMO/pennzoilplt.htm
9.3% vs the TDS of 12.5%

Of course there was the much discussed very big difference for their conventional 5w-20 that tested at 6.5%.
