What log splitter is it, what brand, engine, splitting forces, two-stage Barnes pump, etc. For the average backyard wood splitter I always recommend Schaeffer's #254 in ISO 46 or 68. The major difference between DexronIII ATFs and dedicated hydraulic fluids is the makeup of the base oils and PI package. Dedicated hydraulic fluids such as Schaeffer's have better AW components, better emulsibility for moisture, and the correct friction modification. Last edited: Jun 29, 2014
