Buddy just bought a Chrysler that came out of the factory with non-heated leather seats. He claims that the dealer had someone come and install heat elements in the driver and front passenger seats.

Instead of being on the dash, the switches are on the side of the seat. The dealer told him that "retail" on the job was $450, but that the dealer pays less.

Anyone have any experience with a conversion like this? Do they work as well as a factory install?

$450 for both driver and passenger seats is not too bad. Buying 2 sets from Amazon is $135, plus labor is no less than $200 for some good craftsman so that he/she will not destroy/damage your seats.

I think OP should asking dealer for some discount to reduce the cost down to around $300-350. If anything went wrong then OP may have warranty to repair the heating pad(s) and/or replace the seat(s).

They just take the seat covers off, and put the unit under the seat.

You just need to use hog ring pliars to put the seat cushion back on.

Is their labor worth 400 dollars?

I installed two of these in the front (cloth) seats of the xB two years ago. Pretty straightforward install, and they work great.
