The can says that on. I still presume it is NOT SAFE and I should never ever use this in my vehicle. Correct?

We would need a link to actual product. If it's one that just swells the seals, it's harmless. If it one that can fix metal, then only use it as a last resort on a beater where you don't care if your A/C ever works again.

I eventually found the leak in my 1995 Escort and fixed it. It was leaking from the compressor (of course).

i use a/c high mileage stop leak in everything over 12 years old and it works well the seal conditioners swell the seals and most of the time the leak stops or slows down that i need to charge once a year or every 2 years

Link? How exactly are we supposed to make any assessment?

What is the mechanism of its operation?

I used a can of refrigerant with stop leak last year in the GP before I knew it was a no-no. If I brought my car up to your shop, would you be able to do a full evacuation and recharge? If so, how much would you charge?

I "believe" this is the can which I purchased few years ago It is still sealed. The A/C operation is fine but after 15 years, I thought may be little of boost might be in order. My mechanic has the real machine and he will do the "correct" procedure at reasonable cost, so it is not really necessary for me to play with using this can.

My understanding is that "system safe" sealer in A/C recharge is mostly moisture cured type, and there's no such thing call seal-swelling type of A/C sealer I'm aware of.

Here's my analysis to the seal-sweller deal: there are lots of elastomeric seals throughout the entire automobile A/C systems: from O-ring seals along the lines and all connection joints and also seals inside the compressor.

If, as you said: seal-sealer type, then wouldn't the seal-sweller "swells" seals inside the compressor as well?

(* I bet that would ruin the seals inside the compressor as well*)

Bottomline: most of the leak-sealers are moisture sensitive these days, it's just that those claimed "system-safe" may have some other compositions to counteract the moisture within the A/C system to make sure the polymer does not react (and seal) while the liquid phase refrigerant mix flows throughout the system.

And I bet Chris142 company must have one of these in-action nowadays:
