Switched to Red Line on latest fill after Pennzoil Ultra was discontinued. Very pleased with the results. Going to push the next OCI out to 6K.

It didn't shear down like the others.

Your wear metals are trending down as they should with a newer car.

Nice!

How much more is the Redline vs another 5w30 synthetic? If you're paying 50% more, I don't see that you're getting 50% more performance with the Redline.

cst 9.92 after 5000K?
RL is HEAVY 5W30 oil. It is Euro spec 5W30, and 9.92cst after 5K is nothing spectacular!
You might try Castrol 0W30 and see how it works!

Wouldn't a 9.92cST be on the low end of a 30 grade oil? Looks to me that the RedLine 5W-30 stayed in grade (9.30-12.49cST) and the 5W-30 PU sheared out of grade (to the high side of a 20)

Yes, but PU 5W30 starts lower then RL. RL starts at 11.9.
For example, when I did UOA on M1 0W40, it sheared from 13.5 to 13.3!
The Mobil1 ESP 5W30 that I use now starts at 12.1, and after 3.3K sheared to 11.07. I will do UOA again at 5K to see, but I think 9.9 is too much for oil that is heavy 5W30 unlike PU 5W30.
I do not think there is any problem, but actually I am surprised it sheared that much. Also, this result does not justify price of almost $12 per quart.
I would try Castrol 0W30 which is proven as shear stable and starts at 12.2cst.

I would seriously doubt GC would stand up any better. I've used both GC and RL 5w30 in my WRX and RL stood up much better. I'm guessing a bit of fuel dilution is the reason for the lower viscosity, not shearing.

I was about to say that it could be engine type.
Now fuel dilution, IDK, I have VW 2.0T which has known dilution issues, but never had drop in viscosity like this, and I do push car very hard.
Also, as far as I know RL changed their formulation a bit.

Yeah, I heard that it is more of a problem then on VW, but his TBN is OK and fuel is less then 0.5%.

That's all largely immaterial.
RL 5W-30 has a HTHSV of 3.7cP with a modest 166 VI which puts it on par with a 40 grade oil like M1 0W-40 at operating temp's.
In this application the OP really should be using RL 5W-20 (RL advises dropping a grade when switching to their oils) which is on par in terms of operational viscosity with a typical 5W-30 like PU.

BTW, isn't the 2014 Escort spec'd for 5W-20?

You like to sound like an expert but then you spit out something like 2014 "escort."

Even then, assuming you mean Focus, no, it is not.

Yeah, I screwed up, forgot this was an Ecoboost.

And as far as what I'd like to sound like it would be Bocelli, Pavarotti or Damingo but unfortunately that's not the case.
