I've had a persistant coolant leak recently in the A6, and I couldn't fully diagnose it but guessed it was the secondary coolant pump under the intake that finally sprung a hole. It's a well known issue on the 2.7t, and a tuner company has even developed a kit to replace it with simple silicone heater hose.

This past weekend, I decided to tackle the job. Took everything off the top of the engine and pulled the intake and found this:

Looks like one of the local mouse population had taken up refuge in the warm valley of the engine. Luckily, the little vermin didn't chew anything up so it was as simple as removing the pump and replacing with the hose.

He probably bailed out onto the open highway after the engine got to 150 deg F.

Thats not too bad. We have Marders, lots of them. if one of those buggers gets under the hood you have a real fiasco going on.
Every hose and wire is a target, the little sh!t will sit there looking at you as you walk into the house before he attacks your car.

We use high voltage plates under the hood to get them dancing but it doesn't stop them, they just avoid them next time.
People try toilet bowl mints, cat hair, dog hair and all sorts of stuff but it doesn't work, they can handle a cat pretty easily and they know no dog is in there with them.

Sorry, didn't get a picture of the replacement hose. It basically runs from the lower right of the picture to the upper left along the same path as the two hoses on each end of the round pump.

This is from their website. Couldn't save the pic and have it show up in this post.
