OIL USE INTERVAL: 9,186 Miles

Blackstone comments: Another great report! You pushed a little longer on the oil this time around, so there were some slight

increases in a few metals (chrome, iron, copper), but the other metals actually improved since last time.

Since universal averages are based on ~4,400 miles of oil use, and you're getting better-than-average wear

on a much longer oil run, we don't see any problems to report here! Your previous sample had a slightly low

viscosity, but that's back in line this time, and the TBN is still strong at 3.3, so this oil can run longer. Try

11,000 miles next oil. Nice!

Working on the code block...without much luck...

BLUF: Another good report on Mobil 1's 0W40 in my V-12. Just changed it again, and filled it with another 10 QTs of Mobil 1 0W40. Can't see selecting a different oil when this one is both reasonable in price and performs so well in a long drain in this car.

Happy Mobil ONE user...

Yup, there's that M1 iron!

a whole 1ppm/1k miles. Is there anything left of your engine?

I run the same oil for 10k in the MINI and it's happy too.

It took 13.5 months to go 9k miles, I don't know about you but I like to change oil once a year if the mileage does not excessively passed the oil life monitor, or less than 1/2 allowable.

I was out of the country and had a few other pressing matters. After a year, the OLM on the car starts reminding you at start up...but the TBN was still at 3.2, so there was no harm done in deferring the service by 42 days.

I am still struggling with the code box. Adobe doesn't let me cleanly copy the text...

Valvoline would put that in a green bottle and sell it as new oil.

No, actually, it's better than new Nextgen.

Looks like you could go to 15,000 miles easy, maybe 20,000. Ignore the time in the sump unless you push 5 years. Or start storing it outside.(unlikely for a V12 Merc) I stored one for a foreign oil sheik one summer, very nice with smooth grunt. Drive one of those and the whole Persian Gulf stands up and cheers.

Astro14 - That is a fantastic report! Mobil 1 0w-40 works great in that 5.5 V12. Thanks for sharing that!! I believe those years, Mercedes said 13,000 miles in most Mercedes, but AMG & V12 cars they stated 10,000 miles max, sure looks like 10,000 is easy on it. I guess they never know how it might be driven.

I'm very curious to see some UOAs from new MB engines with direct injection as their sumps have also gotten smaller (I realize there is not a new V12 just talking Mercedes engines in general).

This generation of engines like you posted, the UOAs are simply fantastic.

I used M-1 0W40 in my 04 C240 for about the first 70,000 miles changing it every 10K or so. The price on the oil kept going up. I had tried 0W40 Esso XD-3 when it first came out and loved it, and so did everyone else that tried it. Petro Can had just rolled out a 0W40 Duron (CI-4+) at about half the price I was paying for the M-1, so I tried it out in the Benz. The oil went in mid Sept and came out 14,000 miles later in July. The UOA showed the wear metals ok and the additive package more or less good to go, but 5% fuel dilution in the oil reduced the 100C to 11.5 vis. The cause was a few spark plugs with the tips blown off likely from my daughter putting 91 octane in the tank resulting in detonation. Also a contributing factor was the 200 cold starts over the winter not plugged in as low as -35C. The high daily usage did not boil- off the fuel dilution. The engine saw 6500 RPM all the time. The point of my story is the oil is only as good as the engine tune-up and ruined a perfect experiment. The $22.00 I spent on the UOA turned out to be a cheap lesson.

Wow, really great results. I will stay with Mobil1 in some of my cars. Mercedes-Benz cars seem to love Mobil1.

I put Valvoline Max-life 5w40 in my of my S600 m275 because I already had it in my older s600 m120 and I was pretty satisfied about oil pressure.
I am curious how it will work with biturbo engine.

Have you considered Miller's oils? They are strongly advertised by some oil stores in Europe.

I've not considered Miller's.

I am sure they're fine products, but being able to source things locally, and easily, is important to me. So nothing exotic or boutique in oil for me...if I am running it, it's because I can get it easily...
