Hey folks, I wanted to pass on a problem and fix for a 2001 F150, 5.4L. At 70,000 miles to truck started to buck and miss intermittently.

I thought it was water in the fuel. Added associated fuel treatments. No go.

I thought fuel filter. Replaced it and no go.

Turns out it was plugs. I was avoiding that to the last because they are so hard to change out and I was convinced I could make it to 100,000 miles due to religious maintenance and normal service use (not severe). Worth noting that normal service plug change is 60,000 miles (which is my new plug interval!).

Plugs solved the problem and away we go!

Take care!

I have never felt comfortable running 100K miles out to 100K. I usually change between 30 and 50K on everything that is 100K plug.

About 4 years ago, my co-worker had the same problem with her Mazda MPV. I did the tune-up including the atf and pcv, but the main culprit was the rear-middle spark plug.

The previous mechanic only changed the front (3) plugs as they are NGKs while the rear plugs are old Densos.
