Back In late December 2011, I found a 1 owner 1988 civic Lx sedan for sale on thisoldhonda.org.
This car was originally owned by a 93 year old grandmother who sold it to her grandson in 2007 with 28,000 miles.(Now has 68,500 miles) The car has working A/C, Power windows, Power mirrors, Power steering and has been rustproofed and garage stored..100% original paint too.
These cars, in this shape are impossible to find now !

Here's some pics of the car before I bought it.

It's not perfect. Honda auto transmissions from this era werent the best, but they can last a long time.

Actually those model years had almost bulletproof auto units as long as the fluid was changed about ever 35k or so.

The sad part is this car is NOT a manual trans, the owner could have sold this mint car with a manual for MUCH more than when it was new!

I used to work at a Honda dealer from 1983-1990 and I prepped tens of thousands of these and CRX Si models....

I can easily have a manual swapped in you know.

I only paid $2800 for it.

@robcrx:

You should see if you can find some NOS original aluminum wheels that came on the EX the wheels you have on there are nice but not really period correct. If you contact Honda Canada or American Honda they may still have NOS optional alum wheels which were available when the car was sold as well.

Congrats on your find, it is a good one. I only wish I knew how valuable these cars would be 25 years later, I would have pooled my money with some folks and bought dozens of them and stored them in sealed containers. LOL

The CSA Polaris, Australian made wheels, are actually period for this car. They were introduced in the early 1990's.

We had one of that year with a 5 speed. Best car we ever had.
Too bad the Rust got to it.

What's the back story on this car, How did it survive in such great shape?

That's what I was thinking...wheels look very early 1990s, a good look for the car IMO.

I haven't seen a Civic of that generation that looked that clean in a long time. Great looking car. Nice to see a really original modern classic like that.

That's really, REALLY nice. I love really clean '80s cars. And this one has great color to the paint, too. There's a guy running around town here with an older Mazda B-series pickup...it's much older, with the sealed-beam headlamps. It's a basic model, 2WD, manual shift, but the thing is CLEAN.

I believe that the '88 CRX was the Motor Trend ICOY along with the Civic and Prelude all taking 1-2-3 in that order. I may have them out of order but, you get it!

These Honda cars were ammazing in thier time. Even today! They'd just run forever if the bodies didn't rot away from the northern winter/salt.

Original owner only used it sparingly I assume.
