Hello All

Please find below the results from my first oil test.

M1 ESP 5W30
MY12 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0L Diesel
10,000km (6,200 Miles)
Vehicle Milage 70,000km (43,000 Miles)

While I am pretty new to this, the results and the commentary all look quite positive.

What are your thoughts?

Looks good all around. Your wear metals match up with blackstone's averages (you even matched up with their kilometers in use) so that's good. The oil is in great shape with viscosity and flashpoint.

Your silicon is under control, so your air filtration is okay. There's no fuel dilution and the low insolubles indicate your engine is running without excessive soot (and good filtration).

You're good to go!

What is the oil capacity for that engine? Thanks

Capacity is 2 Gallons for the VM 630 (3.0 diesel)

20 ppm iron is good compared to VW, BMW, and MB diesels i've looked at.

Hi and thanks for the feedback.

Oil capacity is 8.4L (2.2 Gallons) and I am using an OEM Oil Filter.

I was going to try different oils as the M1 ESP is quite expensive here in Australia, about AU$14.75/Litre (US$13/Quart) but am quite content with the results.

So I think I'll just continue with the M1 ESP.

I just sent in a sample of Rotella T5 10w30 to blackstone from my ecodiesel jeep.

ESP isn't much cheaper in the US $12+ per quart, like the nice dose of moly Mobil1 puts in, and viscosity is consistent with 30 weight.

Is T5 approved for this engine? Many of the new European diesel engines require a SAPS level below what you would find in CJ-4 approved oils. That is what BMW, VW, and Benz do in their cars.

I think I would order a similar oil to M1 ESP from a European car specialist website if I had to do an oil change like this.

Thats interesting. Not sure what Jeep specifies in North America, but in Australia the oil for the CRD must be 5W-30 ACEA C3, MB 229.51 and Chrysler MS-11106.

Maybe the specs are different over there because you guys use the DEF?

Be interesting to see your results when you get them back though.

Ecodiesel 'NAFTA' version requires, C3, 229.51 etc.

But what happens if I don't use that oil? skyfalls?

I'd rather break it in with T5, which is very close to the spec, but has extra ZDDP. It hasn't burned any oil, so that means none of it has made it to the DPF.

Nah, don't think there will be any skyfalls.

I think it is more about extending the life of the DPF, but I am sure that you guys may have more experience with these things than I.

From memory I think Rotella is branded as Rimula over here. These oil company's sometimes have a way of making things confusing at times, considering what is now a global market.

I'm keen to see your results when you get them up.

Very nice numbers.

If possible, could you please give us some more details about the type of use of the car?

Regards.

Hi Blasar

During the week, this is actually my Wife's daily drive. So 2 trips back and forth to school every day plus general running around, shops, kids to sport etc.

We do live semi-rural (although only 40 minutes from the Perth GPO in Western Australia) and everything including school, shops and sports grounds is about 20 minutes from where we live.

On the weekend it get used for everthing (my car stays in the garage) and that includes general running around and from time to time, to tow our boat that weighs about 1.5t.

The vehicle averages about 600km (375 miles) per week.

Well, the trips are short, it tows a boat and the numbers are still very good.

I imagine if you use it basically for long highway trips.
