This filter was installed on a 2002 Ford Windstar in October 2012 and in service for 5250 miles until September 2013. Overall I think the filter looks good. However, notice in the second and the last picture there was excess adhesive that ran down one of the end caps and a drop of it that got stuck to the canister wall.

Nice first post!! Welcome to BITOG. Motorcraft filters and parts in general are hard to beat for quality and cost.

For some reason, the wavy pleat and tears seem to be on the metal crimped media, the glued media looks much better.

I read in another post on here that Motorcraft specifies different media than is used in Puro Classics and Pure Ones. That and the glued versus crimped seams seem to make the difference.

Something for the potting material to "grab"?

It has to do with the way Puro chooses to make the thread end bypass for Ford. Regular Puro's just use dome bypasses so they don't have them.

Motorcrafts almost always look great! Thanks for cutting and posting!

Good question. Are the dimples on both end caps, or just on the base end cap?

Just the base end, they are "rivets" to hold the thread end bypass assembly in place.

Can you tell I've cut a few Motorcrafts?

The dimples are only on the base end cap; the top looks like this.

As you can see by the following pictures, the dimples don't appear to do anything other than increase the surface area for the adhesive. The dimples do seem to work though, as the top end cap fell off when I was cutting the filter in half; whereas on the base end cap, I had to sand everything down to get to the metal.

Here are some closeups of the bypass.

It's beginning to look like the media-tearing issue isn't affecting MC filters...I guess I can stop hyperventilating and keep using them.

I went ahead and bought another "Optimus Prime" FL400-S and a gallon of windshield wash at O'Reilly for $1.48 today.

Looks great....putting the same filter on our Vibe this weekend... thanks for cutting and posting.

I've been using nothing but MC filters for several years now with no problems at 10K OCIs.
