Ran another 50/50 mix of 30 and 40w Delo 400. This interval ran from Sept 13' until April 14' with plenty of days starting at 30f oil temps. Ambient temps were slightly lower. No real big gain in wear metals!

Seems to be working well for you on a 2500 mile change. Straight 40 weight is getting harder to find in some places.

Are you going to stick with it?

Yes, contemplating going straight 30 instead of the mix but if so will do interval samples to see if it's doing ok.

Straight 30 weight in a hot time of year may produce different results. I ran straight 30 weight GTX Castrol in my vfr, 50 degree temps, only 400 mile on the oil, and it drained so thin it was like water(very skeeery) it drained in 30 seconds with out a drip( a hot drain). Function wise it worked fine, but ive never seen a 10w30 gtx drain that thin out of an auto on (a hot drain).

in my tests of sae30 and sae40, they held up much better than their 10w brothers did.

here is an example:
the very very best 10w40 i've tested was maxima extra 4 10w40 ($13.99L)
and it gave flash 430 and susvis of 67.8

same exact wear metals for exxon superflo sae40 ($1.29qt) gave flash 440 and susvis of 73.2 on actually .1 longer motor time.

ah, but steve lets compare apples to apples. well OK!
how about exxon superflow 10w40 ($1.29qt) gave flash of 365 (yes TRACE of fuel) and susvis of 61.2 now how much is a trace?
either that trace is a lot more than the stoners let on, or it was beat to death.

i'd much rather run castrol syntec 0w30 (da nice green german elves) that put in a susvis of 61.3 yes, a tick BETTER than 10w40 and did it with .4 more hrs motor time!!!

cold flow startup aside (and i was using the sae40 in warm temps), which would you chose? yes its a trick question.

sae30/40 in 30f startup? thats a bit cold.

do i think it hurt anything, no.
but some of your numbers just dont add up.
how do you gain 8% calcium from a voa to a uoa?
btw, really like that little ninjer!!!

Might be, but you would think the wear metals would be much higher than they were.

yes, but maybe they would have been a touch lower too!
