With all the Purolator Paranoia going around @ the Moment, I decided to Cut open an unused PL20195(FL-400s equiv) I had lying around. Even without this filter, i still have at least a year & half of Filters for my Sable.

No Metal band crimping the seam, tight, Numerous, mostly even Pleats. No tears evident. with this, I'll have no Qualms Running it's twin i still have in the stash.

Haven't seen any 20195s with media tears so far, probably won't as I don't think they are on the risk list.

THERE'S A LIST????
where?
tell meeeee!!
please?

The two pleats either side of the glued pleat are similar in shape to all other pleats. That's good and important.

They do have more space between them and the glued pleat though.

The consensus however is that it is the shape of those two pleats that matters. If they are fully folded, then they have more strength. The pleat spacing matters less when they are fully folded and have more strength.

If they are V shaped, then they are weaker and can tear near the end caps.

Compared to other Purulators, I would expect this one not to tear.

Yep the glued seam on the 20195 does not create the extra large pleat spacing at the seam and I've yet to see a torn 20195. Wavy at the seam yes, torn, no.

Perhaps Puro could easily fix this whole debacle simply by using glued seams on all their filters. The 20195's little brother (identical but shorter) uses a metal crimp seam and there a couple of them on here right now with tears.

I wonder if there will be torn pleats.

There's some suspense in thinking about that one. Cut that baby open for sure.
