Cut open a Purolator L10241?

I have one of these known tear issue filter in my Lexus RX330.
The filter was installed about 4 months ago but the car was driven less than a 100 miles.
The car will at most rack up another 100 miles or so in the next 6 months. I was wondering should I cut it open now or wait 6 month later? The oil is PU 5W-30 if that matters.

Might as well wait based on it will only have 200 miles on it 6 months from now. What's your plan for a normal oil & filter change?

Unless you cut the filter open or its a cartridge... then its very hard / impossible to tell how good the oil filter did unless a UOA.

Seems you could/should install a synthetic or semisynthetic long life filter, I.e. M1, and leave it on for years, changing only oil.
