Base plate looks a lot like a Purolator. What's the bypass valve look like?

+1 That's an inappropriate viscosity grade for your application.

My guess is Purolator. These were given to me by my BIL who used to work at a lube shop.

Why not?

The owners manual specifically states that 10W-40 is acceptable when ambient temperature is above 0 degrees Fahrenheit.

Not sure why some folks would state it's "inappropriate" for the application.

Yes, they're Purolator Classic clones for the most part, though some sizes are slightly smaller than their Puro counterparts....used by Jiffy Lube.

If this one is build by Purolator, then why is the pleat spacing and V-spread so much better than on the actual Purolator brand filters? Probably built on a whole different machine line I would suspect(?).

No doubt a Purolator made for filter with another excellent result. It is the equivalent to the shorty L14612 of which iirc I've seen no reports of any tears in application posted here. Thus until proven otherwise this is completely line with what's been posted here on this application and it's variants. Based on the date code this one also made in Fayetteville at same plant as the Classic, P1, Bosch Premium, and Distance Plus. And likely most similar to in not the same as Pep Boys ProLine and other Puro made jobber filters.

Generally speaking and in my personal experience, the 14610/14612 tend to have straight uniform pleating, this is no exception.

Thanks for the pics.
