How does the 1334 have a have a higher flow rate than the 51182(bigger) but they both have the same nominal micron rating?

In my case it still seals. Look very closely.

What is the OEM filter's spec? I would take this comparison test a bit further and actually test the OEM filter from a few popular applications, just to give us more info about which filter to select.

It's also technically smaller from what I've calculated. I wonder how that is achieved...?

IIRC, the OP mentioned in another thread that the 51334 was the OEM spec'd filter for his Honda van. Using a filter with more than double the spec'd bypass settings might starve the engine of oil in higher RPM situations.
 
The bypass setting on the larger one you originally posted is double the 1334, that's a deal breaker right there IMO. I tried that once and had rattle and running issues.
