Special forces have been using open vehicles for ages now. Specifically, open and fast "dune runners". Nothing wrong with a special operations vehicle that is open and easy to get in and out of.
I like the comments about pre-made vehicles like the g-wagon. This thing turns 24feet circles but doesn't have the tiny tires of a london cab that does it in 25. It carrys it's own weight in cargo. It also can be lifted by an osprey.
Lots of potential for a great military vehicle.
Do we, the US, need this or should we buy them? Well... that's to be debated. We could spend money better in other places - but if they can get people to use smaller and more efficient vehicles in the military instead of the MRAPs and Hummers, it could save money in the long run...
