I had read a bunch about Meguiar's Ultimate Compound. Figured the finish on the Accord was neglected enough to try it out. I just bought this car around a month ago. I used a buffer I got from Harbor Freight - used the buffing pad that came with it. I have Meguiar's pads coming, but they have not showed up yet. I thought I would try with the buffer:

Here are the results. The picture of the hood shows the finished side (passenger side of hood, left side of the shot) and the other side shows the faded, neglected paint I started with. I was very happy! I have never used Ultimate Compound before, much less buffed a car. I was amazed how well this did....

The paint looks great for that age, keep it waxed from here on out and it should last a couple more years.

I didn't expect Ultimate Compound to do so well with 'fade.' That fade you buffed out was probably from the clear coat. I suggest you follow Ultimate Polish. UP has glaze that will condition your 15-20 year old paint and will further smooth out the gloss. Ya, further smooth out.

If you don't want to smooth it out, you can use Meg's #7 Glaze to condition it. It's like lotion for dry paint. Again, your Accord is looking great!

Did you use another wax after you used the compound? Looks pretty good. Is that hail damage on the trunk?

Yes, the car has hail damage. It had been a LONG time since this paint had seen any attention. I detail cars on the side, so I wanted to try out Ultimate Compound. I was amazed how well it worked.
