I actually like horizontal bars on the grille, especially when made of metal. I just like them in the actual location of the grille and not in a gaping hole on the bumper. The bumper grille trend is just not making sense to me. Though as you said, it's in the eye of the beholder.
To me, that look just isn't doing it. Even on the current Fusion, which was touted for its Aston looks, I find it ugly in person. I thought they looked okay in pictures, but in person, I can't help but think "gaping fish mouth."
I think the last really stylish, good looking mainstream midsize is the Passat. I am not a VW fanboy in the slightest. Not at all. Pretty sure I have "bashed" them on here before, but this is the last good looking mainstream sedan...
That, to me, is a good looking car. Proper grille, proper bumper, classy understated looks. No crazy, swoopy character lines. No gaping fish mouth that looks like a large mouth bass with a Fu Manchu 'stache.
Looks are subjective, I just don't get where this one came from. Who said "yeah, a gaping fish mouth on the bumper will look good"? And who approved it?
The last Camry did look a little generic and aimless, but at least was not offensive. Why does VW of all companies seem to have a monopoly on classy, but inoffensive looking cars?
FWIW, I stumbled on this pic of a Vietnam market Camry. That's actually a good looking car. Actually kind of classy for a Camry. Why does the US get no love?
