Oil Analyzers now offers a value kit that only checks to see if the sampled oil is good for continued use.

According to the ad in Amsoil's April 2014 magazine, the value kit tests "oil thickness, corrosion potential, wear metals, and beneficial oil additives" but is not designed to perform a full UOA workup.

Price? $13.95 for preferred customers, and $17.45 retail. So for under $14, a determination can be made if the oil in use needs to be changed or not. I think this is a winner actually. It used to be that it was just as expensive to perform a UOA as it was to change the oil and filter.. so why not just change them? But with the cost of quality synthetics and filters what they are, and value UOAs now $14... the math works for this new value UOA kit.

For a few bucks more, by the prepaid ten-pack, Polaris gives you a complete oil analysis, including TBN.
Fourteen bucks for a faux oil analysis sounds expensive.

According to the longer article in the magazine, those four areas are represented by testing viscosity, TBN/TAN and ICP analysis to determine future use suitability. Check out the "Tech Talk" article on page 9 for the full details.
