Whats the difference between these two filters huh? I bought the Fram ultra synthetic filter for my 4.8 Silverado which runs Penn ultra. Should I have just went with the Fram ultra filter. Confused what the difference is between the two !!! Everyones talking about the " ultra" ....but no mention of the " ultra synthetic ".

But when you read the footnote on the Fram website it only lists 3 filter numbers for 99%. So what are the rest of the filters?

The footnote says:
"FRAM Group testing of average filter efficiency and dirt holding capacity using FRAM XG3387A, XG8A, and XG4967 ... "

XG3387A
http://www.framcatalog.com/PartDetail.aspx?b=F&pn=XG3387A
Product Height 3.36"
Product O.D. 2.98"

XG8A
http://www.framcatalog.com/PartDetail.aspx?b=F&pn=XG8A
Product Height 5.14"
Product O.D. 3.8"

XG4967
http://www.framcatalog.com/PartDetail.aspx?b=F&pn=XG4967
Product Height 2.92"
Product O.D. 2.69"

I think what Fram has done is take 3 Ultra filters of different sizes (small, medium and large as shown above), tested them per ISO 4548-12, and came up with an average efficiency and holding capacity.

Nothing wrong with that IMO because it then basically covers their whole range of filters. Purolator only bases their 99.9% @ 20 microns on one filter, their largest being the PL30001.

Yep, that has been talked about quite a few times here. Well, those are much smaller filters (PL14610 being one of them) than the PL30001 that Purolator references in their efficiency spec.
