I have had this car for a year now. Never ever never a rattle or peep coming from the back left strut tower. My friend owned it before me and the struts all around are new as of last June. This weekend I took the wheel off in order to treat some rust within the fender well. Finished up, reinstalled wheel and now hearing a rattle from that area every time a hit a bump or depression in the road. It will do it going fast or even if I’m idling along really slow backing or going forward. I was able to isolate the noise by having someone push down on the back of the car while I put my ear right up to the wheel/fender well. So I took the wheel off again to inspect the strut and I don’t know much about them but wanted to see if there was anything obvious. Found nothing. Reinstalled the wheel and drove it and it seemed to do it a little and now it completely stopped. Is it possible that I may not have had the wheel properly seated and lugs tightened correctly? If so, could the wheel and not the strut make that noise even when in park and compressing the back of the vehicle putting pressure on that area?
