It's about time to change the oil in our 2000 Taurus 3.0 OHV with 180k on the clock. It burned about 1 quart in the last 6k miles using Mobil 1 5W30.

I'm trying use up the older oil in my stash and the VWB has been sitting there for about 3 years. It's a gallon jug so I'll have to add a quart, but I'm thinking of using 3 quarts of the 10W40 and 2 of a 5W20 or 5W30 to thin it a bit. I can use the remaining quart of the 10W40 to top off the other cars.

My stash includes QSGB and Mobil Super 5W30, as well as Mobil Super Synthetic and Havoline Synthetic 5W20.

Thoughts?

Use the 10w40 with 1 quart of MS5K. It will flow just fine. I ran 10w40 through the entire winter up here in Northern NY.

1 quart in 6k is pretty good for a high mileage Vulcan. I would stick with a 5w30 synthetic if you don't have to use your stash. I use Maxlife synthetic or Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w30 in my Vulcan and it drinks it.

It's nearly summer, just use the whole jug of 10w40 with a quart of the 5w20. Your Vulcan will not care.

The consumption in ours went way down on Maxlife 5w30 from the 5w20 whatever it was the PO was using when we got it. He said it was Motorcraft 5w20 but who knows.
