Subaru recommends Molykote AS-880N be used between the brake shims, and between the pad and shim. They no longer include any lube with OE brake pads. This product seems impossible to find. (Subaru specs a different lube for the guide pins, and yet another lube for the pad to clip interface)

The AS-880N is described as a black in color silicone oil/ silica thickened grease containing specially formulated solid lubricants. Service temp is -40 to 400 degF. Its primary use is to reduce noise.

What equivalent products are readily available?

Molykote-77 from Honda/Acura dealers?

I think Tegger can add some info on this topic. PM him.

I'd just use sil glyde or silicone brake grease for pad to shim and the pad to retaining clip areas.

Nothing holds up forever in either location because of all the dirt and grit that gets into those areas.

I ended up ordering some Molykote M77 from Amazon. Honda specs it for use on pad shims, and I see no reason why it would not work on my Subaru shims. Heck, the Honda brakes and Subaru brakes are probably sourced from the same supplier.
