This aircraft returned from a flight with a low fuel transfer pressure write-up on the rh engine. We drained the wing and opened up the access panels. A 10" x 5" peice of rag was removed from inside the fuel tank. We removed the fuel boost pump and found pieces of the rag clogging up the wire screen on the pump intake. The black stuff is the leftover rag. Fortunely, the screens and filters kept anything from going into the engine. This rag was left inside the fuel tank during assembly at the factory.

Be careful out there!

What clues lead you to the assumption that this rag was left in at the factory?
Is this a commercial or general aviation aircraft?

This is part of why the Automobile OEMs want their transmissions sealed for life. The majority of transmissions that come back for warranty claims have red rag lint in them...

I hear that. The one time the dealer resealed the trans on the wife's C300 (because it was dripping fluid), the trans failed about 2K miles later. Alas, I don't know if the two were related and if they found their missing rag in it.

Had a little over 300 hours on it. So, maybe a few months old.

The aircraft is only a few months old and the wing fuel tank had never been opened before.

Take a look at picture three.
That looks more like a GA shop than an airline one.
The bottom of the nacelle also looks pretty close to the ground.
Beech King Air?

Okay. Maybe a poor attempt at humor, especially regarding the last two manufacturers.
