Can't they just take it up the elevator shaft in one piece?

Just like moving a sofa, stand it on end as you shove the nose into the shaft opening.

Pull to the top, remove the same way

There's no 1 elevator that runs all the way up to the 86th floor. they run to the 80th, where you catch another elevator to the 86th floor (where the observation deck is)
