First post. Thanks for having me. For any TDIClubbers, I was Blue_Hen_TDI in a former life

Running the OEM-spec'd Motorcraft FL-910S filter.

These EcoBoost 2.0's seem to teeth on copper when they're babies. No worries. Trending the right way, as is the other Focust ST'er that just posted.

Blackstone comments: Copper continues to read a little high, but it's headed in the right direction. It should continue to improve with each oil change, so we'll keep looking for it to drop until it reads in the average range. Other metals look good here, showing some mild increases - probably due to the longer oil run (not a problem). The viscosity was low for a 5W/30 grade oil and read closer to a 5W/20. There wasn't any measurable fuel, coolant, or water and insolubles were steady at 0.4%, so the oil filter did a good job. The TBN was the same at 4.4, so try up to 7,000 miles next time.

Based on my experience on my FFST (yeah I posted that one), I'd agree with the commentary. 7000-7500 is probably the sweet spot for PU/PP.

Andrew

Thanks Andrew. It was quite a coincidence to see you post when I was going back to make sure my formatting was right. Two Focus ST UOAs, 5 minutes apart!

I will be running that 7,000 mi OCI next and will report back.

The car puts a smile on my face 24/7. I look for reasons to drive.

Also, make sure you check out www.focusst.org. Great community and a wealth of knowledge over there!

a 10-30 would be a better grade as even group III synthetics flow better at lower temps, it would require fewer VII. i ran Amsoil 10-30 real synthetic in my 2001 jetta 1.8T pushing almost 300 tq for 199,xxx miles before i traded in, had a Quaife installed NO torque steer at all, great in the snow with 4 winter tires. ST is a neat car for sure, too bad they to cheap to use the mechanical locking differential earlier european "hot" focuses used

It's 2014 and pretty much every off the shelf inexpensive 5w-30 synthetic from the major makers will do just fine, if not vastly better than any 10w-30 "real synthetic" from the past. I'd recommend the OP continue using inexpensive and easy-to-get oil like PP or PU and see what the trends do.

So I see that PU has evaporated from the shelves at Wal-Mart and other retailers as SOPUS introduces its new natural gas derived oils and is rebranding PU as Pennzoil Ultra Platinum.

Anyway, I am concerned about the availability of PUP when it is time for my next oil change. Can I get some more opinions about a good oil for this high output little 2.0L EcoBoost engine? Stay with 5w30? Brands? Money isn't really an object. Red Line, Royal Purple, Amsoil, M1, PUP if it is available? I do drive this car hard. It's my funmobile.

I noticed that with the extinction of the original PU, its low NOACK numbers went out the window as well. The new Ultra isn't any better in that regard than anything on the shelf now.

After some research, I found that Amsoil Signature Series now holds the title of lowest NOACK in a 5W-30 of all the brands I looked at. That's probably what I'll be running in my Focus 2.0 when it's time for an oil change.
