Pentosin CHFS11

Some websites sell a Febi/Bilstein or a Ravenol fluid that is supposed to replace the Pentosin CHFs11 and Pentosin 202.

I don't know how well it works because I have never worked on many cars that used Pentosin CHF11s or Pentosin 202.

I find that dubious. The color may not wear out, but it doesnt mean that it remains green under all conditions. Are you implying that the fluid does not oxidize, get any dirt or wear content in it, or moisture either???

Any of those things can have real effects upon the fluid color.

You could also have a unit on the way out.

I've had 11s in my VW since I replaced the rack around 100,000 miles ago. I did add a magnefine filter, but, it's checked regularly and it was as green then as it is now.

Agreed. Even though a PS system is supposedly "sealed", contaminants still get in that can change the color.

After 5 years, my Audi S4's 11S was barely green. It was a very dark green, probably because of dirt or other [censored] that got in there.

Another equivalent is Febi 06161 which is the alternate supplier to most of the major manufacturers.

There is also the equivalent Ravenol P.S. fluid, but GOOD LUCK in trying to find that ANYWHERE in North America!

Did they give any inkling as to when this will happen??

I like the 11s more than the 202, despite it being 'older', due to slightly superior specs.

You might not be able to get it from stores, but you can get it from websites that specialize in European car parts. I got some Ravenol products from blauparts.com

So to be clear there is no problem sourcing CHF11S and that is the only thing I will consider using as it is the only thing apart from Genuine Mercedes hydraulic oil that is on sheet 345.0 which is applicable to my models power steering.

And the fluid does not look contaminated not is it dark. It is simply a light brown color, if anything with a hint of yellow.

Light brown is the color of Mercedes PSF. Pentosin CHF11S as per Pentosins MSDS is green yellow. Mercedes equivalent is also green.

The level is above maximum. Indications are that original green Pentosin / Mercedes was topped up with light brown Mercedes PSF.

As I mentioned, I'm not sure how close the alternative fluids are in colour to the Pentosin. In any case, the easiest way would be a few drain and refill combinations. However, Pentosin is like liquid gold, and that's why it pays to ensure the right stuff is used from day one.

Yes, but they carry VERY VERY little of the Ravenol line up.

I have convinced them to get a few cases of the excellent Ravenol MTF-2 for me to try in my T56 by telling them that ALL of the manual Getrags in Bimmers from '97 on spec an MTF-2 gearbox fluid.

If anyone is interested they will have it in stock by the middle-end of May.

I have not seen this Ravenol product (nor ANY others) on ANY site, save for Blauparts'.

I don't know about the specs. being better, but I can say I have a 1997 Porsche and the owners manual specifies CHF 11 S. Some years ago they discontinued the CHF 11 S Pentosin recommendation and went with the CHF 202 which they claim is better. It has a greenish tint to it and is compatible with the CHF S which used to be used.

Slightly better VI (

), and a slightly thinner cSt @ 40* & 100* C (for the crazy, sub Arctic temps we got this winter).

For all I know, the PAO base stock content could be the same for both, or even higher in the 202.
