Yesterday evening a Malaysian Airlines B772ER went missing off the southern coast of Cambodia/Vietnam. There were around 240 people on board including the crew. It was about 45 minutes into the flight, at cruise altitude and apparently vanished into thin air without any distress calls.

Its all over the major news outlets. There is also a large multi-thread about it on airliners.net. Mostly speculation there.

This doesn't look good.

They have found two oil streaks, each several miles long, consistent with the kind that would be formed by jet fuel.
Prayers for crew and passengers.

In today's date and age, there are no built in plane trackers on board, just what's seen on the freaking radar?

How can an airline just "LOSE" one of it's planes and have no explanation as to what happened? This is nuts!

What do you mean?

Sometimes planes do fall from sky for various reasons, don't they?

Time to address a few things.

1. As for tracking, ADS-B.

2. MAS didn't lose this flight. At an altitude of 35,000 feet, and a speed of 474 knots, automated data terminated. On the presumption of a catastrophic failure at this moment, the debris field is not only extensive, but submersed underneath the South China Sea.
