I am impressed with how your engine looks.

Other than the VG33 being under powered for most of it's applications, what problems do you speak of?

I agree its a very reliable engine and takes a beating. My only complaint is with maintenance on it. The VG33E #6 plug is a PITA to do, and on the S/C variant you need to remove the super charger to do the plugs (adding another step before the pita #6).

Overall I never had issues with my Xterra, more the rattles and squeeks that got my nerves!

My father had a friends with Xterras with the VG33E engine. They both had an engine with completely worn out bearings at 90,000 miles. They both chose to put heavy oil in them, and trade them in for something else. Both cars were maintained regularly.

However, it seems nobody in my entire family saw any VG30 engine fail if properly maintained.

It is a bit of a pain ,but I've put 2 sets of plugs in my dad's 01 S/C. Never had to remove the S/C It just takes some patience , extensions, and U joints.

I'm not buying it. These must have been 2 very isolated cases, but the VG33's often never have any problems except those [censored] exhaust manifolds ,and studs. The VG33 is not a powerhouse but its very reliable.

It is my dads. I have had plenty of drive time ,but never driven it long enough to calculate MPG. My dad doesn't keep up with it.
It was EPA rated 15 city 18 Hwy. Most people on the Frontier forums report similar numbers.

I'd thought about getting one for a while, but the mods and tuning weren't there. Just headers, and maybe water injection to keep things cool. They aren't intercooled are they.

Nope no factory inter cooler. They are good reliable trucks , but not much for the 3.3 as far as aftermarket. That motor can be made to make some power but it's not worth all the cost ,and custom work it would take.

The VQ40 in the 2nd gen is much better in that regard.
