A few years ago I bought some Mobil 1 5W-30 ESP for my previous "d".On the bottles was an expiration date which,IIRC,was about four years after I bought them.Do high quality synthetic oils like Mobil 1 and Fuchs actually have a limited "shelf life"? I ask because I've got about 12 litres of Fuchs (LL-04/229.51) oil that I've had for 2-3 years and I hope to be able to use at least some of it over the next couple of years in my new "d".TIA to anyone who replies!

Not really. The shelf life is easily 10 years or more. Many blenders don't even give an expiration date.

The shelf life id bet is usually based on the bottles resistance to breakdown from the oil.

I bought some MOTUL oil from EBay . It was no where near 10 yrs old. Came out of the bottle as watery the a gelatinous glop.

Motor oil is inherently stable and non reactive at room temp. I would only just start thinking and considering usefulness on a old, open, near empty, steel drum of Jobbers grade lube.
