I usually just use Amsoil GLC (red) since it's in my grease gun. Really any quality grease should work fine.

I also put some grease on the bottom of the slides.

Thats a good old vise!
I would grease the threads, wire brush it down and rub it with oil. Good for another 75 years.

that is NOT just ANY vice. thats grandpas vice!!!!! it is worth WAY more than ANY other vice. i have one like that. that was my dads vice.

I don't know if i would clean it up much with a wire brush. There is something about the patina that is there from your grandfather. I might wipe it down with a light oil and lube it well all over but if it were my grandfathers vise i would not wire brush it.

What a great vice with family history too! I would clean and lube it but not paint or try to "improve" it. Your great great grandfather created some of those dents building and fixing stuff over a century ago. Too cool. thumbsup
