I'm trying to remove a tach that is held in place by a rubber gasket. I know how it comes out but I can not get it to budge.

What lube can I use that will not damage the rubber?

You don't want oil.

Try WD-40 or even liquid soap.

You can buy a small container of silicone plumbers grease at any big box or hardware store. Safe for all rubber and plastic. It's the consistency of Vaseline and won't drip or run.

Just don't let that silicone mix with any lubricants. Silicone "oil" is typically a siloxane like PDMS. For what you are doing... I doubt you'd need something like that. A little soap would work like others said.

If you want something to prevent it from sticking in the future.... baby powder.

if you are willing to clean it with soap and water after removal why not just use something like 3-1 oil or triflow in a drop bottle?

I usually just spit on it, plenty slick for rubber mount gauges and a quick wipe down and it's good to go.
