Those faux pipes that stick out of the beds of pickup trucks that obviously weren't there from the factory. Saw some especially large ones today, and noticed that unlike the real semi pipes which have a little flap on top to keep rain (and presumably, foreign objects

) out, these don't.

So, what happens in a heavy rain? Do they drain somehow?

No truck i ever drove had those annoying flaps on them. Spend a night in a truckstop next to a truck with those and you will be ready to strangle him in the morning! They clang and rattle all night.

And listening to some rattle-trap diesel idle all night is enjoyable...lol

At least the diesel rattle is constant and can actually promote some pretty good sleep....like white-noise.

Rain caps rattle uncontrollably and can be very annoying.

Some of the pick-up pipes are way too big and look ridiculous.

Any exhaust stacks on a pickup, regardless of size, looks ridiculous.

Agreed.

Amen! nothing like putting a nice hot exhaust pipe in your cargo area. Of course most of the ones doing this never haul more than a grocery bag anyway.

And are illegal in many states, but we all know that those laws are not enforced (as are most other anti-bro-truck laws, such as two-foot lift kits).

There's a late 90's T100 (I think) roaming around here, wooden bed with like a 2" pipe coming up out of it. I think that truck pulls it off pretty well.

The rest of them, not so much.

They aren't always for show. (Yes, I agree they mostly are) With a diesel truck you want zero backpressure after the turbo, unlike anything non turbocharged. That's why people use 5" pipe. To send them up out of the bed is shorter and with less turns than putting them out behind the rear tire. You probably need 600hp before you need exhaust like that, but, that isn't hard out of a modern diesel.

Yes. As much as I like older Dodge pickups, those trucks simply looked stupid.

Agreed. I stand by my previous post.

This typifies what I said in another thread about trucks being the new "ricers". Rolling coal with 12" diameter stacks with a 12" lift kit seems to be the new "in" around here.

I think stacks on a pickup are equally as ridiculous as a 1.5" exhaust pipe with a 6" tip. Both modifications are non-functional and are intended as attention-getters. I'm personally not into attention-getters, which is why I think both are equally silly.

The styling is showing its age, but wasn't the Little Red Express the fastest domestic vehicle that year?

Going off topic here, but what about side pipes on a Corvette? The Dodge isn't going too far from them.
