Transmission cooler hose

Merry christmas everyone.Question on my 08 dodge dakota 4.7L transmission oil cooler hose.The return hose (hot) was leaking from the factory one at the crimp and i took it off and put a new transmission hose on where the metal tube flare (meets) and put a worm clamp on bothe ends and still leaks..now there are two flares on each end on the metal tube should i just push the hose over top of the metal flares and use one clamp or two each end..could this do the trick?
 
Are you sure you have the right diameter hose? The old stuff gets gooey and embiggens. There are sizes other than 3/8 and 5/16... metric and IIRC 11/32. Just to drive you nuts. Can you get any printing off the old hose?

Usually the 2nd flare is a stop, but if you have enough hose, stuff it over. That you can slide it over easy enough to ask indicates to me your hose is too big.

Another vote for the hose is wrong size. Too big.

If you want to, use a fuel injection hose clamp and clamp down hard on the tube. It won't hurt the tube. Otherwise, I would buy the right size tube. As others have. Mentioned, there are many sizes that are similar but not the same.
 
No i dont have any pictures and the original hose thrown out last week but the new hose is the same size and length but do have enough to over lap the two flares each end..not sure the trick would work or not but this is what i have seen when i googled on images where the hose was over laped and two clamps each end..thats where i got this idea
 
Hey Donald...it wasnt that hard to do. All i did was put some ATF coating inside the hose and push and twist and its on
 
Make sure you are using transmission fluid rated rubber hose too. The "regular" fuel line/vacuum line tends to break down after a year or so.

I also double clamp stuff like trans cooler lines, meaning I put two clamps on each end. I usually try to but the clamp right behind where the flare is if I can.
 
Yes im using transmission fluid rated hose and you are so right on two clamps because ATF runs very high pressure and may slip off if not secured right..i just came in from being under the truck and i do have enough room to push more hose over the double flared metal tube.Not sure if im doing it just yet.just gives me the iby jiby thing what if something happens down the road and fry my trans. Just thinking over it for a spell
 
The pressure is not very high. One clamp will be fine. I have done the cooling line flush on Jeep and Camry and it did not seem to be a high pressure at all. You can see the ATF squirt out of the open hose during a cooling line flush. I would guess less than 10 lbs.
 
I drove 150 miles with my cooler hose unclamped. It popped of when I got off the Interstate and accelerated away from a stop light....
 
Get some 3/8 fuel injection hose clamps and toss the worm drive junk.
Put the hose over the first bubble then put the clamp about 1/4" behind that, tighten the clamps firmly but don't over tighten, there should be some space between the 2 "ears".
 
Hey Trav i believe you are right on the nose about getting rid of the worm clamps and i will get the 3/8 fuel injection clamps.I figure thats the proper way of finishing the job i think and not look back except check for leaks as required. Very clever Trav.Funny thing is im a back yard mechanic and i do very well doing my own repairs but never touched these kind of hoses on any vehicle untill now..first time for everything
 
When I need new transmission lines like that, I just get the assembly at the dealer (mail order dealer).

Of course in this most previous case, it was the metal lines that had rusted out. Picture is of the new, replacement lines.
