Anyone have any concrete info on this oil? What group is the base, and whats the NOACK?

Does this point to Group V blend? Pretty low Flash point.

By the way, TXT Softec was replaced by SLX Professional LL01, according to this document:

Of course, we can't be sure if that means that the BMW 5w-30 is now the same as SLX Professional LL01.

Especially in the US. I believe it was suggested that BMW 5W30 was an Ashland product. Interestingly Castrol doesn't appear anywhere on the BMW branded label.

"MADE IN USA with foreign and domestic products"

The curious thing is that it's a product marketed jut for North America. In Europe, they get the BMW LL04 0w40 instead.

Quattro, I've seen that PDF, what in it points to group III? If you look at the MSDS I posted in the OP, it shows esters being used, wouldnt this point to group V blend?

Switched to SLX PROFESSIONAL BMW LL01, or CASTROL SLX PROFESSIONAL LONGTEC BMW LL01
5W-30?

Cant find anything newer than 07' in regards to these blends..Minus 1 VOA from this year.

If it is indeed the SLX, and not the softec anymore, this page suggests NOACK to be 13%, seems that it corresponds to the VOA as well, as far as TBN and FP;

Motor Oil Bible

So, in short, seems the Softec was superior, though, its since been replaced by the SLX professional. Link to the VOA;

As you know, most oils are a mixture of different oil bases. I said "predominantly" group III, so this still leaves room for other bases such as esters.

One thing pointing to predominantly group III is its pour point of only -36C, as listed in most technical sheets.

Cool, thanks for the info! Wifes X3 is consuming a bit of this BMW oil, I plan on switching to Redline's Euro 5w30.

Is it under warranty? If so you'd be better served using an approved lubricant like M1 0w-40, PU 5w-40....etc.

Plus if it's under warranty, the oil changes are free.
