I see Repco have released a full synthetic range. 0w40 is an absolute bargian, and of course it's cheaper than 5w30!

It's in the same bottles as all the others; is it made by Penrite? Does anyone have any information?

Never heard of Repco myself though, others may have

Being full synthetic in 0W40 at the bargin thay you mentioned, this is what I'd use in your neck of the woods.

But, certainly wait till others chime in of course!

Just curious, what does a liter of this cost in Australia?

Retail for a 5L jug of 0w40 is $48. It was on special last weekend though for $36.60.

0w40 is "just" A3/B4 rated. 5w30 is SN/GF-5.

Did they (and/or Penrite) buy the name from the brake pad company (now PBR)??

Repco took over PBR (Paton's Brake Replacents) in 1947. PBR was always one of Repco's brands. Repco gets whoever gives the lowest quote to sullpy their oil I guess - one time they used BP, then Mobil, at sometime Penrite, but no idea about this stuff.

WHY do my factory original, 2000 model year calipers say PBR on them??
Does Repco still keep the name around as a subsidiary name brand (kind of like how GM/AC Delco kept the Packard name around for plug wires)?

Sorry, I misunderstood your post as meaning that Repco purchased them in 1947 and then summarily disposed of the name, and company as a whole, not that they kept them on as one of their brands under their corporate 'umbrella'.

Hi,
Silk - As I understand it, Repco is a retail outlet owned variously over the last few years by Financiers etc. It sources products from various suppliers

PBR is a Manufacturing and standalone organisation - as always I stand to be corrected

PBR still have a large manufacturing facility in the south east of Melbourne.

I'm not sure if PBR or Castrol make this brake fluid though. Actually, I think I've seen Shell brake fluid in the same bottle also.

That is a good price for Oz!

$54 NZD at Repco at the moment for 5l.
Is it a quality product though?

Repco is a major brand in Oz and if the oil has the certifications and ratings you need, then I would say its safe for the recommended interval.

At full price though, you might want to opt for the Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 which has almost the same builder approvals as M1 0w40 and is $50-$55 I believe.

I use it over here in my Mercedes and it is quieter and smoother than M1 0w40.

Noticing more and more "house brand" oil around.....
Supercheap have one called "Chief Chickasaw 5w-30" SM, A3/B3/B4. No kidding....
Are they any good tho. Who makes them. Not much info on the website.
I have emailed Repco for some data on the RFS 5w-30.
