UCG to GTL Demonstration Facility, Queensland Linc Energy has successfully combined and demonstrated UCG and GTL technologies at our Chinchilla Demonstration Facility in Australia. We can produce low cost syngas for cleaner gas-fired power generation, GTL fuel production and chemical manufacture - representing exciting commercial opportunities for economical energy and industrial solutions. Since the Demonstration Facility was established in 1999, we have developed and operated five successive UCG gasifiers and a GTL pilot plant. We have refined the process to a point where we can produce syngas in around 60 minutes, from coal seam to output. Our experience also includes the development and validation of a series of models to predict and control the technology in regards to site selection, groundwater contamination prevention, land subsidence and maximising gasifier performance. A primary focus of our operations has been the successful measurement and mitigation of environmental impacts from UCG. The Queensland Government officially noted Linc Energy’s significant technical capacity in 2011, describing the Chinchilla Demonstration Facility as “world’s leading practice in UCG.” Linc Energy has constructed and commissioned the world’s leading UCG demonstration facility in Queensland. Located near Chinchilla, about 300 kilometres west of Brisbane, the facility hosts a series of successive UCG gasifiers to produce syngas for cleaner energy solutions, such as gas-fired electricity and diesel and aviation fuels. - See more at: http://www.lincenergy.com/clean_energy_australia.php#sthash.wnoLqxwH.dpuf

LOL, it was close, beauty instead of ACE would have been more in keeping with the lingo.

UCG, that is wild stuff right there, "burning" coal while it's still underground!!

It can't be as nasty as fracking though

They should set up shop over one of the coal fires (some in PA) that have been burning for decades and destroyed towns.

Centralia, PA. A sad case and an interesting point you raise.

Yeah, Gary Allan told me about Centralia...there's got to be some wya of harnessing that instead of just letting it go...but then the new "owner" would won the whole problem.

What's the "overhead" on the UCG process? It seems like it would take a lot of energy to drive air down the injection well.
