Hey Guys,

I was cleaning up my workshop last night and ran across this unused L14612 that I had left over from the old Subaru I traded in. With no reason to use it, I grabbed my hacksaw and cut it open. This is my first filter dissection! See below:

Here is the filter assembled:

All the pieces. The nitrile ADV was nice and flexible. Also, the outer can was fairly thick and difficult to crush.

I was impressed with the filter element. All the folds were uniform, the metal crimp was solid, and the glue was even with no high, low or missing areas.

I was impressed with this filter, especially considering the $3 it cost me at Wally World.

yea I love the classic if don't have a filter from oil change special, built well, no start noise,& cost $2.37 at wally for my car, looks good

You just cant go wrong with these oil filters, so much quality for such a low price. I have one that I plan on cutting open that was ran for more than 4k miles in a filthy engine. When it comes down to bang for buck, I think the purolator oil filter line is top notch.

What was the date code on that filter? Doesn't look very old.

i'm really a big fan of purolator filters in general.

I use that same filter on my motorcycle and my dad's cycles and even our 4-wheeler.

The 14610/14612 series tend to have and maintain straight uniform pleating over the course of an oci. As mentioned, for $3.27 a solid everyday value filter. And it's made in the US.

Thanks for the pics.

I finally got around to looking up the date code: F11D09E2. Not sure how to interpret that...

So F11D09E2 = Nov 9, 2012

I agree with the others, that is a darn good filter for the money. The Puralator was a good replacement value filter for the old SuperTechs that Walmart used to sell.
