How does valvoline synpower compare with other synthetics? I can get a 5 quart jug of 0w-20 valvoline synpower at walmart for $17.00, with coupon. It's for a 2012 Corolla.

Which Walmarts are you finding this? I've checked out all three last week and can't find any.

Synpower API SN looks really good in UOAs posted here.
The main rap on earlier Synpower was weak TBN retention, but this appears to have been remedied.
If I didn't have forty quarts of HGMO SM 0W-20 plus sixteen quarts of SSO 0W-20 plus a jug of FAR QSUD 0W-20, I'd have been all over the NAPA labeled Synpower 0W-20 at $3.49/qt.
Also, while you may have to fudge date in service and mileage a little bit, you can register your car on both the Pennzoil and Quaker State sites and then get MIRs which will make a jug of PP 0W-20 around five bucks after MIR and a jug of QSUD 0W-20 FAR.
This explains the current fill of PP in our '12 Accord.
Had I waited a week, until after I hooked up with the fellow member from whom I bought the HG, it'd be running that now. It will be getting HG in the next few weeks, since the MM will hit 15% over the next few weeks, just in time to get the oil changed before the coming of real cold.

You can get some specs on it from petroleum quality institute of America website and compare many synthetics and dino oils

FWIW, Synpower is one of the few 0W-20's out there to meet Chrysler MS-6395. As of now, Mobil 1 doesn't, although Pennzoil Platinum does. Your Corolla will do fine with Synpower.

It was reported in stock at the Rochdale Walmart, just the day before I posted this. On the other hand, I have not had good luck going by what the site says as to what's available and what's not. They'll say something like there's no PYB on the shelf (even at regular price), yet there's a wall of it, of course.

I tried, they are all sold out around here, the sale is on clearance for the 4.73L jugs, which are now all 5L jugs and they are full price.

I went to 3 Walmarts

Of course. Then, their site is as screwy as it usually is. They did a bunch of upgrades to it, so I had hoped it would be better.

OT, but I can buy my Bosch 3300 from them online, but just about ever other filter is unavailable online. I guess they do have some work to do.

SLCraig i went through that a few times and what i have done was drove to my nearest PartSource store and asked for a price match after i seen Walmart ran out of their motor oil that was on sale and sure enough i got the same price or even better deal with them on those days when WalMart sold out.If you have a PartSource in town look at their flyers or just get a price match like i did.

Synpower is a capable oil, it has some magical powers to it that don't show up on UOA results; so on paper it doesn't look quite as astonishing as Pennzoil Platinum or Mobil 1, but rest assured it's a quality synthetic.

The TBN drops almost immediately but then retains itself strong for a long while. So where you could have a starting TBN of 9.0, it may drop to a 3.0 in the first 3 months, and then stay there for the next 6 months or 6,000 miles. Just an example.

Me personally? I use the Max Life version of Synpower. More additives, smoother running in my vehicles. Max Life FTW, always.

Plus, HM oils typically have a small viscosity increase.

In any case, Valvoline Synpower is good. It is the quietest running oil in my dad's 2007 Pontiac G6 2.4L.

His car uses 5w30, so that is what I use.
