Oil cap on '02 Trail Blazer 4.2L in line six cylinder calls for 5W30 ...Anybody run 0W30 M1 , PP , etc. without issues - Or does GM frown on this for model year and engine ?

I wont help your gas mileage. 290 HP 4.2 in a 2 tonne vehicle = guzzla. Nice thrick though, I suggested my boss get one for his wife in the used 4K$ range typically overlooked suv with a powertrain designed to go 300K+ miles easy.

AFAIK, GM hasn't ever specified 0W-30 for any of their vehicles. But if your vehicle calls for 5W-30, you can safely use 0W-30 with no worries.

Most GM manuals I've seen will say 0w30 is OK for cold temps.

Is Georgia gonna get the frozen tundra treatment this year?
I'll let you know that our '09 Subaru Forester running a mix of 3qt 10w40 + 1qt 5w30 Formula Shell got the same or better fuel mileage as our '11 ruuning 0w20. But the 09 had VTEC AND THE '11 HAS VVTI. Both Sticks.

My grandma has an '02 Tralblazer LTZ 4.2L and it gets 18-18.5 in the city and at least 22 on the highway. Maybe it's special haha.

Mobil 1 AFE 0w30 is safe to use in any 5w30 warranty application per the website. I think it's also a good winter oil too. A 5w30 synthetic flows plenty well in Michigan winters though.
