My friend went to replace his wheel bearings and the chilto a book he said says 100ft lbs on the nut to seat the wheel bearings. That does not sound right.
He now had the truck spew grease out and lock up. So something is wrong. Does anyone know the procedure on tightening the hub?
Seems to me it would be like ford or Chevy 20-30 lbs and then back it off to finger tight basically.

I'm not sure, but that sounds more like the 4wd spec. Without knowing any different, I'd have done it as you described, seating the bearing and backing off.

Verbatim from SKF bearing torque booklet:

Tighten hub nut to 30-40 ft-lbs/37-50 Nm
while rotating wheel. Back off and finger tighten.
Install cotter pin.
