Mobil (not M1) oil filters

I have never seen a regular Mobil filter before.... looks like he stole that from work or something if he works at a shop that does a lot of oil changes.

A guy I know who works at one of the quick change joints said that they were going to be stocking Mobil oil filters. Maybe they are just hitting the market.

I think they've been around a while, as my 2002 Purolator catalog listed them in the back for cross referencing. I was puzzled as to why they weren't listed as Mobil 1 oil filters and why none of them had the M1-xxx numbering system.

Patman, can you check if that number on the case in that eBay auction corresponds to a Honda automobile? I think you know most of the Honda filter p/n's for most filter brands (Purolator is 14459, Fram is 3593, Bosch is 3312, K&N is 1004, etc)

The Mobil MO4459 cross references to the L14459, which is the filter that fits most late model Hondas, it's the one that fits my wife's 2000 Civic and my sister's 99 Civic, both with the 1.6L. The 1.7L Honda engines use a different filter, but almost all other Honda engines built in the last 10 years (incl both Accord engines and most of the Prelude ones) will use these filters.

Well I finally received the filters late last week and decide to hack one open tonight. The number on the filter is MO4459 which obviously cross-references to the Purolator P14459.

Main thing here is metal end caps as opposed to the paper ones Patman found him his recent find with newer Purolators.

So, my question is... Keep these filters and use them on my 172k mile '89 Civic Si with 10w30 Shaeffer or start using SuperTech 3950 with same oil (4-5000 mile oil changes are planned). Thanks. -Aaron

EDIT: Pics don't show up. Can someone host them on their server? My only other one is Yahoo! and it sucks for some users.

Finally I found a friend's server.

This looks to be made by Purolator. The giveaway is the stamped metal overlay covering the heavy metal backplate. That is a telltale sign of a Purolator filter.

Purolator makes the Toyota OEM filter so I wouldn't be surprised if this is too.....

If these are the old Purolator style filters, they are pretty good, they are about a 20 micron filter. Use em up, they'll work just fine.

It's too bad the new style Purolator uses cardboard now.
