Thought I'd post up my 2 runs of Rotella T5 10W30. The engine seems to like it. Did not tow much in this last uoa. The first uoa was towing 10k about 3,000 miles. I was debating going to a 15w40 to experiment but not sure. The truck is tuned and emissions disabled.

Sorry about the image size guys. I'm not the expert when it comes to posting pictures. There was no make up oil on both of these OCI's. 34,000 miles on the truck now.

There is absolutely nothing to complain about and everything to applaud. Yet more proof that thinner HDEOs work every bit as well as the thick stuff. Very nice overall; both engine and oil can tolerate a much longer OCI - get your ROI! If you dump fluid this soon, it's a total waste of the oil and UOA.

Please consider using the block text tool for posting UOAs; works great and eliminates the difficulty of reading non-aligned columns. Sticky at top.

I noted that you are emissions disabled. I just purchased a 6.7 and have noted regens about every 200 miles, which I believe is normal. Others with stock exhaust appear to have a significant amount of fuel dilution. I'll post a UOA in a month or two when I get through the first oil cycle. Seems like a disable may be the key to longevity in these. Otherwise, we should look to an oil that is less sensitive to fuel dilution (or higher viscosities).

200 miles sounds about right. Mine went into regen about every 250-300 miles when it was stock not towing anything. Also used power service gray bottle every fill up.

I've got about 7k miles on this batch of oil (Ford 5W-40). I was running about 6-8 oz of Power Service grey bottle every tank for the first 6k miles. I'm now adding 4 oz Stanadyne and 4 oz of AMSOIL Diesel Cetane Boost (pure 2-ethylhexyl nitrate) premixed per tank. With some luck this will yield a significant reduction in soot and decrease my regens.

In about a week or so I'm changing over to PU Euro 5W-30. Can anyone see a disadvantage to running a VW 507 spec oil in a Powerstroke? Seems like a good choice to me. I'll send an oil sample of the Ford stuff with 8k miles on it to Blackstone and see what comes back.

It doesn't meet the minimum CJ spec your engine requires. PU Euro diesel 5w30 looks like SM/CF.

I'm thinking the VW 507 spec is better for me than the cj-4 spec for trucks. I'm looking to keep the intake clean and minimize my dpf regens. The Euro L 5W-30 PU looks to be a very high quality oil compared to the Motorcraft 5W-40 the dealer puts in. Can you point out a particular shortcoming of the PU compared to something else, besides not being CJ? No disrespect, I'm just not sure that I see a problem with using the VW 507 spec oil. Unless I see 270 degree oil temps, I thing a 5W-30 should be fine.

Just curious, but how is the choice of oil going to minimize regens?

I don't see how the different oil could make much of a difference in the frequency of regens. Not sure why I wrote that unless it was posted after a long stay in the hotel bar. I'm running some fuel additives (2-ethylhexyl nitrate mixed 50/50 with Stanadyne) to try to get a cleaner burn and would love to figure out a way to cut my egr duty cycle in half. Those two things might have an impact on regen frequency.

Dealer told me it was the Motorcraft 5W-40, but I'm thinking it was the Motorcraft 10W-30. 7000 easy miles on this oil. Thoughts? New fill is Pennzoil Ultra Euro 5W-30 (VW-507 compliant)

Here's the results from the Pennzoil experiment. Ran it a quart low for the full 7400 miles and didn't need to add any. I'm running a 50/50 mix of FP60 and Amsoil Cetane boost (6 to 8 oz per tank). My regens are well over 500 mile intervals now (today was 630 miles).

Here is another report. Same Pennzoil. Seems very consistent with the last run.

I can't see the link on your report.
