I just took delivery of a hydraulic scissor auto lift that calls for 1 gallon of ISO VG 32 hydraulic fluid.

I see Advance Auto carries Shield AW 32 in one gallon jugs.

Is this an acceptable substitute?

I also have access to a Tractor Supply and NAPA locally.

Thanks in advance.

My old Hangsterfer's chart lists the following that may be helpful.

Hangsterfer's AW32
Mobil DTE 24
Texaco Rando HD 32
Shell Tellus 32
Exxon Nuto H 32
Castrol Hyspin AW 32
Chevron AW HYD 32
Union UNAS AW32

accually hydrualic fluid viscosity as in VG 32 ia run at 40C not 100c as such any ISO VG 32 oil will be a 32 oil not withstanding any additve or oil type differences.

Industrial gear oils are aslo run at 40C where automotive axle lube are at 100C

bruce, not to nitpick, and maybe subject of another thread...

Have had experience with some 12,000 Voith turbo-couplings, and a previous engineer swapped them to BP "HV"32, a high viscosity index 32 in the past.

Quickly it became a 24-26 as the VIIs were beaten out of it.

yeah there are "low shear VII's" but they will still shear, even a non VI or newtonian fluid can shear given long enough.

I would rather up the vis grade 1 or use a GPIII with a higher VI but then sludge can be an issue.

Yeah shear and pressure will do a number on viscosity. High grade POE and synthetic hydrocarbon based fluids can perform really well if the blender is using a good, shear resistance, additive. Granted - all fluids will degrade, it's a matter of how long it takes for it to get there.
